This is not injustice or corruption. Just plain stupidity!

Usually I try to highlight only injustice in this Country but I think the fact that this group of people can be so stupid and still in power is an injustice by itself!

First up we have Ceylyn Tay who back in Jan7 2012 had showed her stupidity in a video clip.

This Ipoh City Council member from Gerakan wasted no time launching into a tirade against Pakatan Rakyat, arguing that the birth of coalition had led to more racialism resulting in an undesirable “two-race system”. As such, Malaysia should not have a two-party system.

NONE

Tay has also earned herself the moniker ‘Ms Equality’ due to portions of her speech in which she said the Chinese community cannot expect equal treatment because they are a minority.

In the clip, Tay accused the DAP of pitting the Chinese against one another by using a strategy of urging voters to punish Umno by voting out MCA and Gerakan.

“But people do not see a problem with this logic – A commits a crime, B is punished and C is used to suppress A. What does this have to do with B?” she asked.

On the 1Malaysia slogan, Tay told the audience that Chinese Malaysians must be realistic because Malays make up the majority of the people. As such, complete equality cannot be expected.

She said Malaysia should not have a two-party system because its society is not homogenous, unlike in the US or UK.

“A two-party system such as in the US and UK can exist because they are single-race countries. In a single-race country, you can have a two-party system because there is no racial differences.

“But in Malaysia, we can’t. The worst outcome here is to have a two-race system. This is not beneficial to the Chinese. Everyone should think carefully.”

A number of YouTube and Facebook commenters have retorted to her anti-two-party system outburst by asking: “Is Obama white?”

Some of the interactions she has had with critics happened on her Facebook page, which Tay has temporarily disabled because some critics had acted ‘unreasonably’.

“(Moreover,) my Facebook page has a lot of pictures of me at work. I don’t want them using Photoshop to doctor these pictures,” she said.

Tay later clarified that she had taken down her Facebook fan page, not her Facebook page.

kak tunda mca jessie ooi 22nd is Jessie Ooi (right), a Selangor MCA activist, who has become an Internet sensation of sorts because of the manner in which she posed a question to Lim Guan Eng in a recent debate.

"I am ‘half' a Penangite. You always talk about lightening the people's burden. But assessment rates are up. All prices are going up.

"Moreover, at 10.30pm at night, I saw this twice with my own eyes, 10.30pm the roads are devoid of cars, but you still ask enforcement officers to tow cars.

"It concluded with a fight where there were severe injuries. How do you explain this security issue? Is this called lightening the people's burden?" she said.

The stupid girl did not know that assessment rates in Penang has not been increase since 2007. Price of goods going up is a federal govt problem, idiot! And as for the tow truck issue, the stupid girls must not understand that breaking the law is breaking the law no matter what time of the night it is or the fact that it does not inconvenient anyone! IDIOTS!

3rd is the Home Ministry who had banned the sale of a children’s sex education book written by a British author, saying its contents “could threaten moral values”.

It had yesterday ordered bookstores to suspend sales of ‘Where did I come from?’ by Peter Mayle, pending further investigations.

NONEThe 44-page illustrated book published in 1984 aims to help parents explain to children such topics as sex, conception and birth.

The Home Ministry said in a statement that the book was deemed harmful to society after critics complained it contained graphic illustrations.

“The Home Ministry today has decided to ban the book... because it contained elements which could threaten moral values and is offensive to the public,” Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi, deputy secretary-general of security, said.

Abdul Rahim warned that those who breached the order risked being jailed for up to three years.

It took the Home Ministry 28 years to banned the booked?!?! Those pictures are cartoon illustration on how human reproduce. It is factually correct without any form of dirty content!

How did those idiots in the Home Ministry see this as bad but allows our streets and pasar malam to be filled with paddlers selling porn is beyond believe!

4th is another fool from the MCA.

Selangor MCA deputy head of public and services complaint bureau, Allan Liew Sin Kim, lodged a police report against the Penang chief minister, accompanied by five complainants at the Kajang police station.

According to the police report, Liew noted that Lim had uttered “PAS never killed a Chinese” during the wrap-up session of the head-to-head debate which was telecast live.

Liew said that the Chinese community did not understand the true meaning of this remark and felt worried and afraid as Lim was playing on a racial issue.

Thus, he wants the police to investigate Lim on whether he had violated “any racial issue laws”.

Allan Liew must be suffering from the same intellectually challenging illness like Jessie Ooi. Taking the CM's remark literally, it means PAS did not commit any serious offence against the Chinese. How can such a remark be deemed racist or dangerous?

Finally courtesy of NIAMAH!

The Star today is courtesy of the deputy prime minister, Muhyiddin Yassin. He's always good for a laugh.

He was quoted as saying, "Victory for Pakatan will result in changes in the laws upheld by Barisan Nasional all this while."

Errr.......Mr. Deputy Prime Minister....and your point is? The people want changes in a lot of things upheld by Barisan Nasional all this while, kan? That's why
we vote in elections. No ah? That's why governments are voted in and out. No ah?

Journalist Prostitute: NUJ should apologist to Hew Kuan Yau.

The claim by such a contemptuous writer is certainly deliberately made to run down Guan Eng and present him in bad light among the general public, since it has been known, and even agreed to by Soi Lek a few days prior to the great debate, that Guan Eng wanted a second round to be held for the benefit of the non-Mandarin speaking public, since the first debate was in Mandarin.

Furthermore, the paper this mercenary writer writes for has acknowledged and published a brief admission of its error in reporting a statement attributed to Guan Eng that claimed he said "We do not agree the prime minister must always be a Malay because we want the people to decide." Yet, he repeated the erroneous statement in his comment, either deliberately to perpetually spread the lie, or is an ignorant fool who doesn't know what is really happening.

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed indignation at DAP national election publicity bureau chief Hew Kuan Yau for likening journalists to prostitutes, and demanded that an apology from Hew for the derogatory comment.

Journalists who will sell their principles

Although, I understand the NUJ feelings on the matter, I cannot help but have to agree with Hew's statement that there are journalists who will sell their principles and souls for material gains. The above mercenary spin writer is a good example.

Many people will recall that back in the mid-1990s, two identical comments on the performance of a company were published in two English dailies under two different bylines, i.e. names of different writers. It seemed that both established business editors were "selling" their bylines to the company that had assigned a professional ghost writer to churn out the comment, and paid the business editors for using their names in the comment to enhance its value and newsworthiness.

I believe such practices are still common. If such cases are not press prostitution, what are?

NONEA few years ago, I wrote a comment on the types of journalists we have, and I have updated it here as I think what I said then is still relevant and significant.

I have worked as a journalist and editor in the mainstream news media since 1975, in the now defunct National Echo, the New Straits Times, The Malay Mail, The Sun, and The Star, and had also served as the NUJ general secretary in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Throughout the 35 years in the newspaper industry, I have worked with all sorts of editors and journalists, and have identified five types of journalists in the media fraternity.

First, there are the EEs - Editorial Eunuchs - who take orders from their political emperors and write and spin stories to promote the emperor's cause. These political appointees are usually in top and senior positions, not because they are good journalists or great writers, but because of their connections with powerful political godfathers. They are first-class cronies. Many are ghost writers for their political masters. Some are made 'datuk' or given various civil awards, even at relatively young age. Several have become millionaires.

Secondly, there are the PPs - Press Prostitutes - who have sold their souls and principles to gain favours and privileges from their political and/or business clients. They will write what pleases their political masters. The amount of hampers and gifts they receive during festive seasons is perhaps a good indication of their rising status in their media organisations. (Perhaps the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission should consider looking at this practice of giving editors hampers, gifts and big fat ang pow during festive seasons).

Manipulative opportunists who feed journalists

Thirdly, there are the MMs - Media Marionettes - the puppets who have no brains but are used and abused by opportunists to advance their own political or business agenda. The manipulative opportunists usually feed such journalists with twisted information and deceive these gullible writers to propagate their schemes of things. Our education system has produced many such gullible, unthinking, uncritical and dumb people; and not a few are found in the media organisations.

Fourth, there are the JJs - Junket Journalists - those who will write anything for the sponsors of their overseas trips. Let me illustrate how some big corporate companies use such overseas junkets to bribe editors and journalists to do their biding: Company A has a product that an NGO considers harmful to the people. The NGO keeps issuing press statements on its research on the harmful product and the newspapers keep publishing the statements. Company A wants to put a stop to such bad publicity on its product. So, it organises a week-long trip for senior editors to visit the product's factory in Japan. Everything was paid for and provided for, including pocket money for shopping. The editors had a thoroughly good time. On their return, they repay their wonderful host by stopping all negative reports on its product.

Finally, there are the WWs - Wise Writers - the rare breed who know how to survive through the controlled press situation and get their honest views into print without rousing the suspicion of their media bosses, who are usually political cronies. There are very few such honest writers with integrity and principles, and they are usually not in positions of power. Many of them, like yours truly, retire poor.

It was the English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton who coined the famous metonymic adage "The pen is mightier than the sword" in 1839 for his play Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy.

Why the ruling party is getting jittery

And it was the 18th century French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte who confirmed the truth of Edward Bulwer-Lytton's figure of speech with this profound statement: "I fear the newspapers more than a hundred thousand bayonets."

We can now understand why the ruling Barisan Nasional federal government is getting jittery, fidgety and paranoid over the increasingly popular news portals in cyberspace published by the various independent-minded journalists and bloggers, and also the component parties of the alternative coalition Pakatan Rakyat.

The massive swing of votes to Pakatan during the political tsunami of March 2008 is due in no small measure to the power of the cyber media.

The NUJ plans to hold an EGM on its so-called Code of Ethics for Journalists. I suggest that it should consider asking all its members to pledge not to accept gifts, money or hampers from politicians and businessmen, and to surrender what is offered to their companies for distribution to the poor and needy in the community.

NUJ's immediate past president Hata Wahari is a good example of a true, committed journalist who made a bold and brave stand in defence of press freedom, and lost his job in the process. It has been a long time since any leader of the NUJ has stuck his or her neck out to speak against the abuse and exploitation of the media, especially in the mainstream newspapers.

Hata certainly deserves our accolade and support for speaking out, without fear or favour, on the very fundamental matter of press freedom, despite the very real risk of jeopardising his career.

An outspoken and crusading journalist is usually a marked person, and a file will be opened to record every little mistake he makes, to build a case against him. There will be trumped-up charges like sexual harassment, etc, to get rid of any journalist who dares to stand up and speak out against abuses in his newspaper company.

So, are there press prostitutes among our journalists?

THOMAS LEE SENG HOCK is currently media consultant to the Penang state government, but will soon be unemployed as his short-term contract expires in mid-March and will not be renewed. He was the NUJ general secretary end-1970s and early 1980s. He can be contacted at senghock48@gmail.com

Pahang govt in contempt of Federal Court Ruling!

Are the Courts now useless and powerless to enforce the law? The Pahang govt is spitting in the face of the Federal Court Judgement and there is nothing the Courts can do about it??

PETALING JAYA: The 55-year-old retiree who threatened to commit suicide by fire has called off his plans following pleas by his friends and family who feared for his life.

Gan Ee Seng, who had announced his decision to self-immolate in protest over the Pahang state government’s refusal to honour a over RM70-million court ordered compensation to a company he invested in, said he may pay the state’s Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob a visit at his home instead.

“Actually I felt that I want to burn myself today but I won’t. I was warned and advised by police and friends not to do so and… I have agreed,” Gan told reporters at the clearing in Padang Kota, Kota Damansara.

A number of plainclothes police were seen monitoring the situation this morning.

Gan, who had heart problems and diabetes, had begun his hunger strike on Monday and was hospitalised yesterday after he collapsed at the tent he was camping at. Today, he said he would not continue his hunger strike as well.

It was learnt that Gan’s wife and children, had wept and pleaded with him last night to change his mind about killing himself. They had known about the hunger strike but only read about the suicide plan in the papers yesterday.

“My family, my wife, she said they want to come to stop me, but I told her better don’t come. I told them not to worry, I just don’t want her to see me like this,” he said.

Gan said he owed many friends and family money because of this case and has been depressed for some time.

Gan said he called off his plan also because he was reminded not only that an attempted suicide was an offence, but his actions may affect others.

“I may continue my campaign in Kuantan, I may go to the front of his (MB’s) house, maybe burn myself there, I don’t know yet,” he said.

“I just want Pahang people to know, Malaysians to know, that the MB is no different from a pirate.

“If someone comes into your house in the morning and takes your possessions, will you keep quiet? Is it because your fists are larger that you can bully us?” said an weary but emotional Gan.

‘Will stop if BN loses’

Gan said if Pahang government can be so lawless, what was stopping other states from being so. “Which investor would want to come to such country?”

Gan said he may stop all campaigns when the BN government loses in the next general election.

Meanwhile, Seruan Gemilang Makmur Sdn Bhd former director Lee Sin said the group had calmed Gan down last night at the hospital.

“We already calmed him in hospital, we were so afraid and worried for him. He later only really realised that this is not the correct way,” said Lee.

Kuantan-based Seruan Gemilang had in 2002 sued the state for breaching a logging contract in which Seruan Gemilang claimed it was issued a permit to clear 8,000 acres of forest in Pekan, said to be owned by Pahang Umno.

In 2007, the Kuantan High Court awarded RM37,127,471.60 in damages with 8% interest per annum backdated to Dec 31, 2000. In total, the amount due to the company is now over RM70 million.

The award was retained as the Federal Court denied the state government’s application for leave to appeal against the May 2007 decision.

Since then, Seruan Gemilang had repeatedly attempted in vain to compel the state to pay up, including resorting to holding demonstrations, appealing to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and even holding a hunger strike relay last year.

Meet the man who is above the law in Malaysia!

Reproduce from Malaysiakini

The global settlement between several GLCs and former Malaysian Airlines chairperson Tajudin Ramli is proof that the federal government manages the economy with imprudence, said DAP information chief Tony Pua.

In a statement today, Pua said the government’s willingness to reach a settlement showed that large scale leakages and corruption will continue unabated because of cronyism and lack of accountability.

“If there are billions of ringgits of losses in Port Klang Free Zone project had seen former Transport Minister Dr Ling Liong Sik and Chan Kong Choy being charged for misleading the cabinet, surely former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Daim Zainuddin must be similarly investigated for possibly providing illegal guarantee and indemnity of their cronies,” he said,

Pua, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara MP, said minister in the prime minister's department, Idris Jala, had repeatedly warned of possiblebankruptcy within seven years if we fail to manage our finances carefully.

“The question is should BN (be allowed) to continue to rule after the next two elections, then what Idris had warned might just come true,” he said in a statement.

Idris had warned in 2010 that he does not want the country to be another Greece, by 2019 if the people do not swallow subsidy cuts that will see the price of petrol, food, electricity and other staples rise.

Yesterday, Tajudin had withdrew his appeal at the Court of Appeal over his counter-claim and settled the long-standing case.

However, the terms of the settlement was not disclosed despite the Kuala Lumpur High Court had in Dec 2009 ordered Tajudin to pay RM589 million to Pengurusan Danaharta Bhd and its two subsidiaries which manages the debt.

Settlement involves writing off debt

Pua revealed that the terms of the settlement involves the government and Danaharta being instructed to settle the suits at the appellate court by completely writing off the outstanding debt of RM589 million on Tajudin.

“From my sources, I can confirm that the debt has been completely written off as part of the settlement. I knew about it from inside sources. The settlement caused an immediate loss of RM589 million,” he told Malaysiakini.

He said the government must disclose why it has decided to write off the debt when the court ordered it to pay, and who is ultimately responsible for the losses.

“Tajudin has now gotten off scot free from his court-ordered obligations to pay back to Danaharta, an agency 100 percent owned by the ministry of finance amounting to a whopping loss of RM589.15 million, excluding interest.

He said Danaharta’s claims are based on claims that Tajudin had defaulted on a syndicated loan of RM1.79 billion when he took a 32 percent controlling stake in Malaysia Airlines (MAS) from the government in 1994.

Tajudin in his RM13 billion counter-suit claimed he was never meant to be personally liable for the loan as the government had agreed to indemnify him of any liability that arose from his acquisitions of MAS shares from Bank Negara.

The former MAS chairperson also claimed that Mahathir and Daim, “instructed” him to pay RM8 per share for MAS when the market price was around RM3.50.

The High Court had in December 2009, ruled in favour of Danaharta and its two subsidiaries and ordered Tajudin to pay the RM589 million. The same court had struck out Tajudin’s counter-claim.

“Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who is also finance minister must immediately explain why the BN government is writing off the entire debt and letting Tajudin off scot free without even defending itself in the Court of Appeal.

“The decision smacks of sinister motives, especially since the government has already won its case in the High Court. The decision of the BN government proves that it is intent on letting off its cronies easily, despite having caused hundreds of millions of ringgit loss to the government.

“Where is Najib’s ‘new economic model’ where Najib declared to foreign investors that ‘the behaviour of rent-seeking and patronage will no longer be tolerated’. Or is the settlement a result of the government’s agreement with Tajudin defence that he is completely indemnified by Mahathir and Daim from having to bear any responsibility for losses?” he asked.

Pua said if the latter is the main reason, Najib must immediately take action against both Mahathir and Daim, for not only gross negligence but having wilfully provided guarantees and indemnity to Tajudin in the privatisation of MAS.

How can our Police force be better if Hishamoodin is still in Power?

Veteran DAP chief Lim Kit Siang takes a swipe at Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for still hindering the formation of IPCMC.

KUALA LUMPUR: Lim Kit Siang has castigated Home Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein for continuing to be a stumbling block in the formation of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

In his latest blog post, the DAP stalwart described Hishammuddin’s statement as the strongest proof of the continuing lack of political will to eradicate police abuses and corruption.

Hishammuddin recently confirmed that the door is still shut to IPCMC and maintained that the commission would not resolve police abuse cases.

He also said that “political will” to transform the police force was more crucial.

Responding to Hishammuddin’s statement, Lim wrote: “It was Hishammuddin who led the opposition to the establishment of the IPCMC when it was proposed by the Dzaiddin Royal Police Commission five years ago.

“The IPCMC was the most important of its 125 recommendations to create an efficient, incorruptible, professional and world-class police force.”

The Dzaiddin Royal Police Commission had even accompanied its recommendation with an enclosed draft legislation which detailed the IPCMC’s powers of investigation and inquiry to help fight corruption in the force and to investigate public complaints.

Almost immediately after the announcement, Umno Youth had shot down the recommendation over concerns that the IPCMC would be turned into an avenue by certain quarters to expose the weaknesses in the country’s administration.

Poor substitute

Two months later, the Bar Council launched a signature campaign in support of its establishment with the signatures handed over to then Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

In December 2007, Parliament unveiled the Special Complaints Commission (SCC) in place of the IPCMC which was aimed at addressing misconduct by all enforcement agencies.

Amnesty International Malaysia denounced the SCC as a poor substitute that lacked independence and failed to address the need for a mechanism that demanded police accountability for their actions.

“Hishammuddin even went against Abdullah who had publicly committed himself to accept and implement the IPCMC recommendation,” Lim said.

“The combined opposition of Umno and the police forced Abdullah to backtrack and finally scuttle the IPCMC proposal.”

In June 2009, the government also rejected the proposal on the basis that its powers were “too broad and unconstitutional”.

Lim said that the recent spate of high-profile police abuse cases and custodial deaths have once again highlighted the need for an IPCMC to address these cases with seriousness, authority, independence, impartiality and professionalism.

“With Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s ‘People First, Performance Now’ slogan, Hishammuddin should table a formal proposal to ask the Cabinet to revisit the IPCMC recommendation instead of continuing to spearhead its opposition,” he said.

Ex-royal panel chief deeply regrets rejection of IPCMC

Despite Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s claim that Malaysian police have transformed and excelled in fighting crime, there are those who insist that the force would have been even better if the proposed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) had been implemented.
NONEExpressing their deep regret over government’s failure to establish the IPCMC in front of dozens of senior police officers, two former members of the royal commission on the police force insisted that Malaysians would be enjoying a better police force had the IPCMC been set up.
This position was expressed by former chief justice Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah (left), who had chaired two royal commissions on the police force, and former Bar Council president Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari, who sat on the two commissions.
"We heard the (home) minister really praising the police. In my view, if all the IPCMC recommendations were implemented, it will be a service recognised worldwide," Kuthubul said at a discussion session during the International Conference on Principled Policing in Subang Jaya, Selangor, today.
The two-day conference was attended by senior leaders of local and foreign police and enforcement agencies as well as international policing experts.

‘Still very disappointed with rejection’
Kuthubul elaborated that an independent complaint mechanism such as the IPCMC was a popular demand in many countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
NONEDzaiddin, who moderated the session, echoed Kuthubul (right), saying that he was still "very disappointed" and "sad" with the government’s rejection of many important recommendations made by the two commissions.
Another speaker, UiTM constitutional law professor Shad Saleem Faruqi, described the government’s rejection of the IPCMC proposal as a "serious drawback" in ensuring that the men in blue acted according to the rule of law.
The rejection, Shad said, was the result of robust resistance within the police force and the lack of will from senior police officers to push for reforms.
Without the independent body, Shad explained, Malaysians had no remedy if the reports they lodged with the police or other enforcement agencies were not investigated and acted upon by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
The president of the International Movement for a Just World, Chandra Muzaffar, who was also invited to speak during the session, suggested that the IPCMC be "repackaged and reinstated" as an ombudsman that also covers other enforcement agencies in order to counter the negative perception of the IPCMC.
However, this argument was immediately demolished by Dzaiddin, who said the royal commission had rejected proposal for an ombudsman.
The IPCMC is the most important of 125 recommendations made by the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police, which was established in 2004.
Despite overwhelming support for the IPCMC from civil society, the government gave in to police resistance and shelved the proposal, subsequently replacing it with a Special Complaints Commission, a watered-down version of the IPCMC.
The second commission chaired by Dzaiddin was the royal commission of inquiry to look into the infamous "’nude squat" case, in which a video recording of a female detainee being ordered to perform sit-ups in the nude while in police custody was leaked on the Internet.

Police helpless as thugs run riot in Klang

I wonder will these thugs ever see justice??!? I guess not while BN is still in power!

From Malaysiakini

A ceramah on academic freedom was aborted last night after a rowdy group of youths wrecked and blockaded the intended venue at Kampung Idaman, Klang.

When contacted, Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) president Ahmad Syukri Ab Razab said the "gangsters" had broken chairs and strewn them in the multipurpose hall before the ceramah began.

smm klang ceramah 120212"They also surrounded the venue and we were forced to take refuge at a nearby food stall while waiting for the situation to calm down," he said.

However, the group of some 70 people, Ahmad Syukri said, refused to budge, prompting the students numbering, about 15, to lodge a police report at Pandamaran police station.

"We arrived at Pandamaran police station at about 10.30pm, the gangsters followed us and started to gather there with their motorcycles."

The incident was the second time a ceramah was disrupted in Klang, the first being a ceramah by Anything But Umno (ABU) where rowdy youths on motorcycles stormed the venue at Jalan Kebun and reportedly beat up a youth.

‘Hit by stones and sticks'

He said that due to the tense situation, local police decided to escort the students to the Klang district police headquarters for the report.

"Three police cars escorted us in a convoy of five but when we came out they threw stones and hit our cars with sticks.

smm klang ceramah 120212Thankfully the windows did not shatter but (Kumpulan Aktivis Mahasiswa Independen deputy president) Khalid Mohd Ismath's car was badly dented, but there was nothing the police could do," he said.

The gangsters again followed the students to Klang district police station headquarters and their numbers swelled to over 100, claimed Ahmad Syukri.

"After making the police report, we were advised not to leave the police station for our safety.

smm klang ceramah 120212"Even at 4am, the gangsters were still outside, we had to escape through another door with the help of local residents," he said.

The students managed to leave without incident and no one was injured that night, said Ahmad Syukri.

The ceramah last night was part of the students' nationwide roadshow for academic freedom. However, this was the first time it has been disrupted.
