I have heard of many people confuse on why MP Teresa Kok was place in ISA. The main stream media as usual does not do justice to the true story. Thus for those without Malaysiakini excess, let me give you the THS behind this in as short as I possibly can!1.
Sept 12, 2008 at about
11.18pm, three police cars with over 10 officers stopped Kok at the entrance of her condominium and
arrested her under Section 73(1) of the Internal Security Act.
2. A notice issued by the Special Branch police to her next of kin, stated that Kok, 43, had acted in a way which threatened national security, which warranted arrest under Section 73(1) of the ISA.
3. Political insiders said it was possible her arrest was also related to a report in the
Utusan Malaysia newspaper, which alleged she was behind a
petition (see the actual petition below/or click
here) to lower the sound volume for the azan at several mosques.
4.
HOWEVER!!!!......Masjid Kinrara, the mosque which is embroiled in an azan controversy, said DAP parliamentarian
Teresa Kok was not involved in the petition to lower the volume of its loudspeakers.
5. According to
Abdul Rahman Nasir (
below), who is head of the
mosque committee, Kok had never set foot in Masjid Kinrara to present the residents' petition.'
6. THE REAL CULPRIT! Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo (below) has earlier alleged that Kok, who is Kinrara state representative, of submitting the petition calling for the mosque to "tone down" the azan (the call to prayers).
8. She said Mohd Khir’s statements are “lies, slander, and maliciously intended at raising the anger and anxiety of Malay-Muslims in the country and to incite their hatred against party leaders in Pakatan Rakyat, particularly DAP,”.
9. Khir was quoted on June 26 as alleging that Selangor exco and DAP leader Teresa Kok had submitted a petition to Umno’s Seri Serdang state assemblyperson Satim Diman which supposedly described the azans as “disturbing the peace” of local residents.
10. Siti Mariah, however, said she had checked with Kok as well as the state assembly hansard containing Satim’s speech and said she had ascertained that all the allegations regarding the azan were not true.
11. “The issue of there being a directive against azan does not arise at all,” she told reporters after lodging the police report.
12. Siti Mariah (from PAS) said only Umno has exploited racial and religious issues in its attempts to regain its lost support. During its rule in Selangor, it was behind the “locking up” of mosques and the ban against some religious speakers.
13. “DAP leaders have never stepped into or meddled in Islamic affairs. All this while, it has been Umno that has oppressed Islam,” she said
14. The residents who
signed the petition said they had never intended to protest against the use of loudspeakers for the
azan. Instead they have requested the mosque to lower the volume of the loudspeakers for the
ceramah (religious talks) which often followed
AFTER the prayers.
While the azan lasts a couple of minutes, religious ceramah could go on for more than an hour.15. The petition, signed by 189 residents, was handed over to Serdang state assemblyperson Mohamad Satim Diman from Umno in February and another copy given to the mosque authorities.
16. Another copy was also sent to Kinrara DAP state assemblyperson and state exco Teresa Kok's office after the March 8 polls because she was the nearest state assemblyperson there apart from Mohamad Satim.
17. Masjid Kota Damansara officials have denied that their mosque had ceased sounding the azan from its loudspeakers due to pressure from non-Muslims.
18. Secretary of the three-week-old mosque Ahmad Redzuan Samsudin said a police report was lodged on Wednesday against former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo for claiming pressure from non-Muslims and a state exco-backed petition had forced them to stop making the azan through the loudspeaker.
19. The police report, lodged by mosque head Hassan Basri alias Basri Mohd at the Kota Damansara police station, quotes the latter as saying: “I see all of this as slander and an attempt to give rise to prejudice among the various races in Kota Damansara, an act of provocation to divide the community.”
20. Teresa Kok herself said that “I have no problems with the azan being made. My house is close to a mosque,” She has threatened legal action against Mohd Khir and Utusan unless a retraction is made.
SO NOW THAT YOU KNOW THE TRUTH! PLEASE TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE INJUSTICE!!!!
NOTE: Teresa Kok has since sent a letter of demand to Utusan Melayu, asking for a retracting or else she is going to sue their pants off!!! Check it out on her website!!
