Stop wasting time! No way MACC will be doing such thing! But I understand that PKR must at least try to do something! I guess better than parties like MCA and their supporters who keeps quiet on such blatant corruption!
PKR call comes in wake of a visit by French legal officer Joseph Breham's who is currently in Kuala Lumpur on a two-day fact finding mission targetting the scandal.
Breham is one of the three lawyers who has filed a case with Parisian prosecutors on behalf of local human rights group Suaram on DCN's sale of the three submarines to Malaysia in 2001.
A French court has opened a preliminary investigation into the matter and Breham would be advising Suaram on the next step.
The opposition parliamentarians spent an hour with Breham before having a press conference during which they noted that the French defence giant had a history for being investigated for corruption and handing out bribes to government officials.
Among the countries where such incidents are alleged to have occurred are India and Taiwan, two nations which have had arms dealings with DCN.
PKR's Batu member of Parliament Tian Chua said the French authorities' ongoing probe in the two countries suggests there could be discrepancies in the Malaysian transaction which saw the payment of RM534.8 million to local company Perimekar for supposed 'support services'.
The sum has instead been alleged to have been kickbacks for various government-linked officials from the sale of the submarine.
'Failure to investigate'
"We call upon the MACC to review and investigate thoroughly the transaction relating to the payment of these monies to Perimekar and to follow the money trail.
"MACC ought to obtain information from DCN and the French authorities so that those who are involved in bribery and corruption are made accountable and brought to justice promptly," he said.
He told Malaysiakini that during their meeting with Breham, the Pakatan parliamentarians had also discussed the workings of the French legal system.
Also present at the press conference were parliamentarians William Leong (PKR-Selayang), Dzulkefly Ahmad (PAS-Kuala Selangor) and M Manoharan (DAP-Teluk Intan).
"The MACC has not instilled confidence in the Malaysian public that it is capable of carrying out independent and professional investigation and prosecution of corrupt senior officials," said Tian Chua (right).
"The lack of a thorough and proper investigation into this matter by MACC is seen by their failure to investigate and obtain information from France and other countries.
He added the information dug out by the French after Suaram's complaint only reflected on MACC's 'lack of thoroughness.
"The MACC or its predecessor, the ACA, had conducted investigations in Hong Kong, Japan and Europe when investigating Eric Chia in the Perwaja case.
"The failure of the MACC to carry out investigations in France on the Perimekar case is therefore a glaring omission," said Tian.
Well I hope Altantunya will come back and claim her commission (with interest!) from Najib in his sleep!!!
The appeal was dismissed wi
Elegant had initially named then Umno treasurer Abdul Azim Zabidi as the defendant, but the court later permitted the company to amend its claim by replacing Abdul Azim's name with the party's former administration and finance secretary Ishak Abdul Rahman's as defendant.
“Human trafficking may be significantly linked to Sabah if it is not tackled soon,” admitted DSP Mohd Taufik Maidin at a seminar organised in Kota Kinabalu yesterday by the Sabah Women's Advisory Council (SaWAC). “Already now there are escort services and guest relations officers (GROs) available as a cover. This puts Sabah in the right spot for such crimes.
Twenty-two women were rescued in January alone in Keningau, according to Taufik, and 33 other women elsewhere in eight raids last year. “The cases are being treated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007 (ATIP Act) as they were trafficked and tricked into prostitution”.
While human traffickers could easily escape persecution under the 2007 Act in the absence of co-operation from their victims, ironically the latter could still be charged under the Immigration Act for over-staying, misusing their social passes or, under Section 372B of the Penal Code, for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.
Mariati, continuing, told the local media that the existing Special Task Force on illegal immigration should also consider the human trafficking aspect of the problem.

What irks me about this non-event meeting is that we had to resort to employing a very expensive public relations firm (APCO), for which read grubby Washington lobbyists, for close to
